Shape of Despair

Shape of Despair is a Finnish Funeral Doom Metal band. The band was founded in 1995 under the name "Raven", the name was changed to "Shape of Despair " in 1998. Shape of Despair released their first promo tape under its present name in 1998. Since then, the band released three albums and a compilation. Subcontract it is the label Spinefarm Records.

Style

The band's music can be described as slow, atmospheric and cold and is dominated by organs, violins, deep guitar riffs and deep growls of Pasi Koskinen. The music is to be compared with that of Skepticism, but differs from the latter by their melodic construction, their precise production and a large proportion of classical instrumental sounds - some songs of Shape of Despair achieved in this way an almost orchestral appearance. Of particular note in this regard would be for example the songs Quiet These Paintings Are, and To Live for My Death.
