Sharp County, Arkansas
The Sharp County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ash Flat. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Arkansas, adjacent to the northern tip of Missouri and has an area of 1,570 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History

The Sharp County was formed on July 18, 1868 from parts of Lawrence County. It was named after Ephraim Sharp, a member of the government of Arkansas and Representative of the Lawrence, Randolph and Greene County.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Sharp County 17 119 people in 7,211 households and 5,141 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.14 percent White, 0.49 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.12 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.16 percent from other races groups. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.39 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,211 households out of which 25.8 per cent of children or young people under the age of 18 who lived with them. 59.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers, 28.7 percent were non-families. 25.6 percent of all households were single-person households, and 14.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size is 2.79 people.
21.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.3 percent between 18 to 24, 22.8 percent between 25 and 44, 25.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 23.6 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.4 males to every 100 females age 18 and over, there were an average of 90.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 25,152, and the median income for a family $ 29,691. Males had a median income of $ 23,329, women $ 16,884. The per capita income was $ 14,143. 13.2 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
