Serrasalmus sanchezi

Serrasalmus sanchezi, to English. called Sanchez 's Piranha, Red Piranha Ruby or Ruby - Throated Diamond Piranha, is a Sägesalmlerart from tropical South America.

Description

Externally similar to the way the Serrasalmus medinai occurring in Venezuela. Juveniles are silvery colored with numerous black spots on the upper half of the body. Throat, breast and anal fins ( anal ) are clearly colored red. The caudal fin is a dark terminal band and colored basal dark. Adult animals are darker with numerous silver and purple iridescent scales and gradually becoming red eyes. During the spawning period, the color of animals will darken and the spots are indistinct. The animals reach a standard length of about 11 centimeters.

Serrasalmus sanchezi has 41 (40-42 ) Abdominalzähne ( Serres ) and 77-79 pores in the lateral line.

Dissemination

S. sanchezi occurs in Peru in the catchment area of the Rio Ucayali. The type locality is on the Rio Ucayali Caño Yarina, tributary of the Canal de Puinahua (lower Rio Pacaya ). In addition, the species occurs in the upper and middle Amazon and Marañón.

Way of life

Little is known about the life of S. sanchezi. The species occurs in white water rivers or in the mixed water of white water and black water rivers, but not in pure black water before.
