Sharps container

In a Kanülenabwurfbox, also Abwurfbox, sharps disposal, Yellow Box, Kontamed box or the smaller Kontamedchen be medical equipment, posing a risk of injury or contaminated with blood and thus are potentially infectious, such as needles or scalpels, disposed of. These containers offer special removal aids for needles and sharps are safe.

Construction

The Abwurfbox must meet the following criteria:

  • Sufficient size
  • Sharps safely
  • Liquid-tight
  • Sufficient opening for receiving the cannula
  • Closure system that is designed to fall out anything that tips over
  • Stability

For the safe handling of the containers, it is important not to exceed the prescribed by the manufacturer the level. A transfer from smaller to larger sorting bins is not permitted.

After use, ie when it reaches the maximum fill level, the containers are securely closed, so that a re- opening is not readily possible and disposed of in accordance with the guidelines, eg on waste management of hospitals.

Use

Drop boxes found in all categories medical use, either in physicians' offices, hospitals and rescue services. In addition to needles and other sharp contaminated with blood or infectious liquid objects also opened glass ampoules are disposed of in the drop boxes. Falsely also used swabs and syringes are often disposed of in the containers, but this is not necessary.
