Sharuhen

Sharuhen was in ancient times the name of a city in Retjenu. She lay on the present territory of Israel, about 20 km west of Be'er Sheva.

History

At the beginning of the Egyptian 18th Dynasty, when Ahmose I began the expulsion of the Hyksos Kamose continued playing Sharuhen a special strategic role.

In the second Peretmonat (February) took Ahmose I. 1522 BC in his 18th regnal year, the eleventh year of the reign Hyksokönigs Chamudi, the ancient Egyptian city of Heliopolis, and captured a short time later on 25 Achet I ( September 17 ), the frontier fortress Sile.

After the successful capture of Sile and Avaris was followed by a three-year siege of the fortress city Sharuhen that Ahmose I in 1519 BC finally took in its 21st year of reign.
