Shatsk, Ukraine

Shatsk (Ukrainian Шацьк; Russian Шацк; Polish Szack ) is an urban-type settlement in the far north- west of Ukraine. Shatsk has 5370 inhabitants ( 2012) and is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The first mention of the place in the year 1470. 1595 was the place is mentioned in documents as a city. At the beginning of the Second World War took place here at the battle took Szack between Polish and Soviet Russian troops. From June 25 1941 to July 21, 1944 the site was occupied by the Wehrmacht.
