Shaukat Aziz

Shaukat Aziz (born 6 March 1949 in Karachi), Urdu شوکت عزيز, is a former Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Pakistan.

Life

Shaukat Aziz attended Saint Patrick's High School in Karachi and Abbottabad Public School Abbottabad. From Gordon College in Rawalpindi, he received his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1969 he received the MBA degree from the Pakistani Business School, IBA ( Institute of Business Administration ), Karachi. With an internship at Citibank began in 1969 his financial career.

For Citibank, he worked from 1975 in many countries, including Greece, the USA, UK, Malaysia and Singapore. He also served as head of the Corporate and Investment Banking for the Asia -Pacific and Central and Eastern Europe / Middle East / Africa.

In November 1999 he was appointed by Pervez Musharraf to finance ministers of the new government.

Following the resignation of Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali on June 6, 2004, he was of his party, the PML (Q ), nominated as his successor. In July 2004, he lived during a campaign trip, on which he ran for a parliamentary seat, a suicide attack. On 27 August 2004, he was elected by the National Assembly by 191 to 151 votes for prime minister and entered the office on August 28. His post as finance minister he maintained.

The economic reforms initiated by him are held responsible for the continued strong economic growth of Pakistan. Aziz's critics accuse him, however, before irregularities in a number of privatizations.
