Shawn Bates
Shawn Bates ( 2009)
Shawn William Bates ( born April 3, 1975 in Melrose, Massachusetts) is an American professional ice hockey player who plays for the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League since December 2009.
Career
Bates began his career in the team of Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and was there in 1995 even celebrate the championship, where he was also selected to the All- Star team. Immediately after graduating, he moved to the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League, where he remained for four years and also some games in the farm team, the Providence Bruins completed. After being put on the waiver list, took him 2001, the New York Islanders under contract. A special moment in his career was a penalty shot in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Conference against the Toronto Maple Leafs, as he beat 2:30 minutes before the end of normal time goalkeeper Curtis Joseph, which the Islanders were able to provide in the series to 2-2. However, the series still lost with 3:4.
However, in the following years, Bates services deteriorated, and in 2008 he was finally put on the waiver list again. Even with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, he completed just three games and so came across the 2007/08 season only five appearances. In 2008 he finally moved to Europe for the first time to the Finnish team HIFK Helsinki, where, although he performed well, but re-injured after only 20 games turned out. During this time he also had to undergo a hip operation, whereby it turned out injured again. In the summer of 2009 he took part in a training camp of the Colorado Avalanche, but could not convince. In October he was finally taken by the Austrian record holder EC KAC as a replacement for the injured Andrew Schneider to a try-out contract. Due to insufficient performance of the contract was not renewed, and Bates graduated only six games in which he was able to record three assists for itself.
In December 2009 he was engaged by the Manchester Monarchs.
