Career

Shawn Colvin grew up in Carbondale on in the U.S. state of Illinois and also studied at Southern Illinois University Carbondale later. At the age of ten she began to play the guitar. She gave her first public concert at the age of 15 on the campus of the University of Illinois. Colvin called in interviews and autobiography Joni Mitchell as a primary influence on their music.

Colvin began in the late 1970s seriously in the music scene to work, first in Austin in the U.S. state of Texas, then also nationwide. During this time she met her music partner John Leventhal know; he later became producer of several albums Colvin.

Her career began after initial trials with his own band and various other engagements in 1987 as a backing vocalist for Suzanne Vega. In addition to performances with Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega, the Indigo Girls and other artists, they also made several own tours. Their first album under his own name came out in 1989.

Colvin's first publications were praised by critics, but not sold in a corresponding number. After a few albums with original songs she released Cover Girl, a collection of re-recordings of the songs of others.

Colvin had a chart success with the published in October 1996 album A Few Small Repairs. 2012 published her autobiography Diamond in the Rough: A Memoir, which was released along with All Fall Down and advertised. The album was produced by her longtime friend Buddy Miller and recorded at his home studio in Nashville. Miller committed for the recordings including the guitarist Bill Frisell, bassist Viktor Krauss and drummer Brian Blade.

Shawn Colvin lives with her daughter in Austin, Texas, and still committed to the music scene of Austin. It supports liberal values ​​and has occasionally played charity concerts for candidates of the United States Democratic Party. It also supports the Texas Public Interest Research Group.
