Shawn Fanning

Shawn Fanning ( born November 22, 1980 in Brockton, Massachusetts) is an American Internet entrepreneur.

Projects

• Napster: he developed in 1998 Napster, the first popular peer-to -peer file sharing platform. Fanning developed the program while he attended Northeastern University in Boston. The media hype surrounding Napster brought the file sharing network, more and more new users, but soon was Napster, the goal of some supported by the music industry processes - which eventually led to the shutdown of the network. Since 2002, the Trademarks belong to Napster Napster, Inc. (formerly Roxio, Inc.).

• Snocap: In 2003, Fanning founded a new company, the Snocap Inc., the exchange market is to allow the sale of legal music. The business idea, however, had initially not taken root. In 2007, 26 of the 57 employees were terminated in order to make the company more attractive to buyers.

• Rupture: In 2006, Fanning began his third project Rupture, a social network for players and game characters. The response has been extremely moderate; Rupture of the pages you will find only 6645 members in the leaderboard.

Others

Shawn Fanning in 2003 had a small appearance in the film The Italian Job - hunting to millions. He played himself on the side of Seth Green as Lyle, who claims to be the true inventor of Napster. In a flashback to Shawn Fanning looks as roommates of the sleeping Lyle, stealing a floppy disk with the program from the computer.
