Shawn Kemp

Shawn T. Kemp (born 26 November 1969 Elkhart, Indiana ) is a retired American professional basketball player. Between 1989 and 2003 he played in the U.S. professional league NBA for the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic. Kemp is 2,08 m tall and played on the position of the power forwards. Due to his physical presence and mainly because of the dominance that he exuded, he got the nickname " The Reignman " ( the ruler ).

As a basketball phenomenon at the Concord High School Kemp gained early fame and got over a hundred offers of sports scholarships. Kemp decided in 1988 for the offer of the University of Kentucky. After he was accused of having a teammate steals jewelry, however, he was thrown out of the team. Kemp was planning a change at the UNLV, but fell through the entrance exam and therefore moved in the middle of the season for the Trinity Valley CC ( a junior college ). There he was blocked by NCAA regulations for the first ( or part thereof ) season.

Surprisingly, Kemp 1989 decided to abandon his studies and to sign up for the NBA Draft. The Seattle SuperSonics selected him 17th place and ended up with him a lucky hit. Kemp develops alongside playmaker Gary Payton to the performers of the team. Because of his young age he was at that time the nickname Manchild. Mid-1990s were the Sonics to the top teams in the league, and 1996 for almost 20 years, they were the first time in the NBA Finals. There they were subject, however, against the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen.

After disagreements with the management Kemp was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1997 surprising. There his achievements eased greatly, and Kemp was not able to old performance, even with the Portland Trail Blazers. After a final season with the Orlando Magic Kemp ended his career for the time being.

His comeback had Kemp in the 08/ 09 season. On 18 August 2008 he signed a one year contract with the Italian professional team Premiata Montegranaro in the Lega Basket Serie A. Although at this time already 39 years old, he is said to have been found at this time in good physical condition. Crucial for Kemps decision to sign with Montegranaro, said to have been the good relationship Kemps for new team manager Roberto Carmenati. After playing three games in the pre-season, Kemp returned to Houston to assess the damage done by Hurricane Ike damage at his home. The contract with Premiata Montegranaro was finally repealed.
