Shawn McEachern

Shawn McEachern ( born February 28, 1969 in Waltham, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who during his active career, among other things, for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League was active. Since summer 2010 he has been head coach of the Rivers School in the USHS.

Playing career

Shawn McEachern began his career at the Matignon Warriors, the ice hockey team of the Matignon High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was active from 1985 to 1988. During this time, the attacker NHL Entry Draft in 1987 was selected in the sixth round of a total of 110 position of the Pittsburgh Penguins. After graduating from high school in the calendar year 1988 McEachern began studying at Boston University and also ran for their hockey team, the Boston University Terriers in the Hockey East on the ice. In the 1990/91 season won the intent with the team the championship of the Hockey East and was due to his convincing performance with various awards. McEachern received an appointment to the All-Star team and was named as the best player as Most Valuable Player. During the 1991/92 season, he managed to jump into the NHL squad of the Pittsburgh Penguins. After victories over the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, he won with the Penguins the final series for the Stanley Cup against the Chicago Blackhawks in four games and secured the team trophy.

In the following season, the offensive player earned a regular place in the team of the Penguins and completed all 84 games of the regular season, in which he scored 61 points scorer. The team failed in the play-offs in the second round in seven games against the New York Islanders. On August 27, 1993 McEachern was delivered in a swap deal to the Los Angeles Kings. In return, the enforcer Marty McSorley went to Pittsburgh. After he finished 49 games for the Kings while achieving 21 points, the links Sagittarius was sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins again even in the same season. After another year in the service of the Penguins again followed an exchange transaction, in consequence of the attacker on 2 August 1995 to the Boston Bruins was ordered. In his only season for the Bruins the offensive player was able to increase his points haul back and recorded 56 points in 87 NHL games.

But in Boston, it did not keep him long, and the Bruins gave him in June 1996 to the Ottawa Senators from. In the following six years, McEachern scored regularly at the best scorers of the Senators and played for years with Marián Hossa, Daniel Alfredsson and Alexei Yashin in a row. In June 2002, McEachern was transferred together with a sixth- round option for the 2004 Entry Draft to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Brian Pothier went to Ottawa. In calendar year 2003, he was appointed captain of the Thrashers and filled this office more than a year. After the season was 2004/ 05 canceled due to the lockout, the attacker remained at first without commitment. In January 2005, he signed with the Swedish club Malmö Redhawks, for whom he played 16 games. In August 2005, he joined as a free agent the Boston Bruins. The left- shooter was in the course of the season for their farm team, the Providence Bruins, sent to the American Hockey League. After ten appearances for the Providence Bruins in the AHL, he finished after this season his career.

Internationally

McEachern participated with Team USA at the 1991 World Championships. He also represented his country at the Olympic Winter Games in 1992 and the World Cup of Hockey 1996. His greatest success was about winning the gold medal at the World Cup of Hockey 1996.

Coaching career

McEachern struck directly by end of his career as an active player on a career as a trainer and started for the season 2006 /07 as assistant coach to the team of Northeastern University in the NCAA. After he had done this position for another year in Boston, he took over the hockey team from the University of Massachusetts Lowell again the duties of the assistant coach. This position filled from McEachern two years. In the summer of 2010, he was entrusted with the management of the Rivers School in the USHS.
