Shawneetown is a small town and the county seat of Gallatin County in the south of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2000, Shawneetown had 1410 inhabitants. The city is the county seat since 1937, after the Old Shawneetown today called place had been flooded.

Geography

Shawneetown is located at 37 ° 42'53 " north latitude and 88 ° 11'00 " west longitude. The city stretches over 3.0 km ², which consist almost exclusively of land area.

The city is located about 5 km north- west of Old Shawneetown on the Ohio River, which forms the border with the neighboring state of Kentucky.
