She Wears My Ring

La Golondrina ( German: The Swallow ) is the title of a popular Mexican song of 1862.

History

The composer of the song, Narciso Serradel Seville (1843-1910) comes from Alvarado, Veracruz, Mexico, and was a doctor. During the Mexican War intervention 1862 he fought alongside General Zaragoza against the French troops, was captured and deported to France. During the time he wrote " La Golondrina " on a text by Niceto de Zamacois. 1865 (according to other sources 1896) Serradel returned back to Mexico to work again as a doctor. By the way he conducted military bands and composed. La Golondrina remained his greatest success as a longing Heimatlied and became known worldwide.

In the U.S., Victor Records in New York in June 1906 brought out a wax roller recording with singer Carl Señor Francisco. In 1960, an English version titled " She Wears My Ring " with a text by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, sung first by Jimmy Sweeney, then by Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and others.

In Germany, the song was titled "Do not cry " by Heintje in August 1968 number -one hit. Basis for this was a 1949 as "The Song of the Dove " by Ralph Maria Siegel with assistance from Rolf marbot edited version.

There are also numerous instrumental recordings, including 1928 with Paul Whiteman and 1955, a guitar version with Chet Atkins.

Original
