Shedd Aquarium

The John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, USA, was built in 1929 and is one of the oldest museum aquarium plants in the world. At the same time it is also the largest indoor aquarium in the world.

The aquarium is surrounded by a park called the Museum Campus Chicago, which it shares with the Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum of Natural History. The museum houses about 8,000 animals from over 650 species, including fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians and insects. It lists about two million visitors annually.

The Shedd Aquarium was a gift from John G. Shedd to the City of Chicago. After the completion of construction on 19 December 1929, the first exhibitions were held in 1930.
