Sheepdog trial

The Herding Trial or Sheepdog Trial (german shepherd hats examination or test) is a test for coupling working dogs in the English style and is different in the task from the usual in Germany Herding.

Performance classes

There are three performance classes:

  • Class 1: Beginners
  • Class 2: Advanced
  • Class 3: Open Class

Depending on the terrain the tasks may vary on a trial. It is previously set a time in which the course is to deal with. The sheep must not be touched at any time from the handler. Most will work with a small group of five sheep sheep.

Tasks

The following tasks are Rated:

  • Outrun: The race always begins with the fact that the dog is a sheep group, which is depending on the power class in 80, 120 or 360 meters and more pick. The dog should it run out into a pear-shaped arc to get behind the sheep. The handler ( handler ) stops at the starting post.
  • Lift: The lift is the moment in which the dog makes contact with the sheep. This should be done adequately by the pace and so that the sheep in the right direction at a moderate pace start (step easier or trot ).
  • Fetch: The dog is now the sheep in a straight line through the Fetchgate / drive gate (6.30 m passage width ) bring to the handler. There he must as close as possible to hang around the handler or starting gates the sheep.
  • Drive: After the sheep were driven to the post, they should be placed in a straight line as possible from the pole for the first Gate Drive / drive gate ( also 6.30 meters wide ). Directly after passing through this gate flips the dog the sheep to drive another drive gate. After this gate, the sheep are to be placed on the shortest path in the Sheddingring.
  • Shed: In Sheddingring / separation ring by the judge, a predetermined number of sheep has to be removed. If the sheep marks ( eg wearing collars ) may be required that only these should be in a separate group. For this purpose, the handler is allowed to leave the post and work together with the dog. While separating the sheep may not leave the marked circle (diameter 36 meters). The dog must show that he has the separated group under control, so that the task is considered to be mastered.
  • Pen: Sheep must now into the pen / pen (2.40 × 2.70 m ) and drift. The handler may thereby move in a radius fixed to the door 1.80 meters long rope. The task is considered to be met if the gate is closed.
  • Single: The sheep are brought back into the Sheddingring. There, now a sheep must be separated according to the same rules as the Shed.
