Sheffield Ingalls

Sheffield Ingalls ( born March 28, 1875 in Atchison, Kansas; † January 17, 1937 ) was an American politician. Between 1913 and 1915 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kansas.

Career

Sheffield Ingalls was the son of U.S. Senator John James Ingalls ( 1833-1900 ). He attended the public schools in Atchison and Washington DC After graduating from Midland College in Atchison, he studied until 1895 at the University of Kansas. After a subsequent law degree in 1897 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work on a modest degree in this profession. He mainly focused as a member of the Republican party in politics. Between 1899 and 1901 he was a magistrate in his hometown of Atchison. In 1906 he was elected to the House of Representatives of Kansas, where he was a member of various committees and Chairman of the Education Committee. Ingalls was an opponent of political cliques and fighting corruption. At times, he also edited the newspaper Atchison Champion. Later he went into the banking industry and the real estate industry. He was, among others, director of the First National Bank and the Railway Specialty Company in Atchison. He was also a member of several organizations and associations.

1912 Ingalls was elected to the side of George H. Hodges Vice Governor of Kansas. This post he held between January 1913 and January 11, 1915 13. Yet he was assistant to the governor. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he continued his previous activities. He died on January 17, 1937 in his hometown of Atchison, where he was also buried.
