Sheikh Hasina

Sheikh Hasina Wajed ( Bengali: হাসিনা ওয়াজেদ Hasina Oẏājed; born September 28, 1947 Tungipara village, district Gopalganj ) is a leading politician in Bangladesh and since January 6, 2009 for the second time Prime Minister of the country.

Life

The eldest daughter of the founder Mujibur Rahman and her sister Sheikh Rehana was not murdered as the other members of her family on August 15, 1975 as part of a military coup against her father because she was staying at that time in the Federal Republic of Germany. Sheikh Hasina took over in 1981 the leadership of the then opposition Socialist Awami League. From June 23 1996 to July 15, 2001, she had her first term as Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Hasina Wajeds long-standing political opponent is Khaleda Zia. Both women have the Office of the Prime Minister occupied alternately. In the last parliamentary elections on December 30, 2008 Wajed won with her center-left party a clear victory against Zia and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP ) and secured the league more than three-quarters of the 300 seats. She escaped several assassination attempts already, which were perpetrated on them. On January 6, 2009, she was sworn in as prime minister again. One of their political programs is 'Digital Bangladesh '.

In a disputed parliamentary election was confirmed on 5 January 2014 in their office. Before and during the election, there were violent clashes in which several people were killed. The BNP had called for a boycott of the elections, as they accused the government vote-rigging. The United States, as well as the Commonwealth and the EU rejected the deployment of election observers.
