Sheila Sherwood

Sheila Sherwood ( Sheila Hilary Sherwood, born Parkin, born October 22, 1945 in Sheffield ) is a former British long jumper.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 they came on the 13th Place. In 1966 she won, starting for England, the silver medal at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston and finished seventh at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest, 1967, she won at the Universiade.

The following year, she married the hurdler John Sherwood. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, she won with 6.68 m silver medal behind Romania's Viorica Viscopoleanu who set a world record of 6.82 m, and before Tatjana Talyschewa from the Soviet Union (6.66 m).

One gold medal at the British Commonwealth Games in 1970 in Edinburgh with her personal best jump of 6.73 m was followed by a fourth place at the European Championship 1971 in Helsinki, a ninth place finish at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, and a seventh place finish at the British Commonwealth Games in 1974 Christchurch.

Three times she was British champion in the Hall (1962, 1963, 1965) and four times in the open air (1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 ).
