Shelby County (Alabama)

Geography

The County is located north of the geographic center of Alabama and has an area of ​​2097 square kilometers, of which 38 square kilometers are water surface. History

Shelby County was formed on February 7, 1818 parts of the territory of the Creek Indians. It was named for Isaac Shelby, a hero in the American Revolutionary War and the first governor of Kentucky. The first county seat was Shelbyville, after which it was Columbia, renamed on 13 January 1832 in Columbiana.
