The Shelby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 6373 inhabitants and a population density of 4.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Shelbyville.
Geography
The County is located in the central northeastern Missouri. The Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois, located about 50 km to the east. The county has an area of 1301 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. At the Shelby County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Shelby County was formed in 1835. It was named, as is the district capital of Shelbyville, after Isaac Shelby (1750-1826), the first and fifth Governor of Kentucky (1792-1796, 1812-1816 ).
