Shelden Williams

Shelden DeMar Williams ( born October 21, 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for Tianjin Ronggang in the Chinese league. The 2.06 meter tall Williams plays the position of power forward. Previously, he was active 2006-2012 in the NBA.

College

Williams was an outstanding college player who was known primarily for his rebounding and his tough defense at Duke University in North Carolina. He scored 1,859 points and 1,217 rebounds there and won two " NABC Defensive Player of the Year" Award as the best college defensive player. In his four years, he also made a degree in sociology.

NBA

Williams was pulled by the Atlanta Hawks in fifth place in the NBA Draft in 2006 and was initially -starting power forward, but played only moderately and soon lost his place on Marvin Williams and Lorenzen Wright. In his rookie season he made just five points and five rebounds per game. In his second season Williams mid-season to the Sacramento Kings was transferred, but could so far nor enforce. There followed further involvement with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets. Williams remained more than one year in any of the team and was able to prevail in any of the teams.

Europe and Asia

On August 28, 2012, he signed with the French first division club Élan Sportif Chalonnaise.

In October 2013 he signed a contract with Tianjin Ronggang in China.

Private life

Williams is the son of Bob and Jeannette Williams. Bob Williams was also a college basketball player. Sheldens brother Quincy currently also plays basketball at the College of North Texas.

Since 2008, Williams is married to WNBA superstar Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks. They met both at Duke University know, and in May 2007 he asked her to marry him, which she accepted. Together they have a daughter. The former NBA player Anthony Parker is his brother in law.
