Shelekhov
Shelekhov (Russian Шелехов ) is a city in Irkutsk Oblast (Russia) with 47 943 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city lies on the southern edge of the plain to the north of Sayan, about 20 km southwest of Irkutsk Oblasthauptstadt, the Irkut river, a left tributary of the Angara.
The city is the Shelekhov Oblast subordinated administratively directly and also the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
Shelekhov is ( station Gontscharowo, 5204 route km from Moscow ) and the highway M55 Irkutsk on the Trans -Siberian Railway - Chita.
History
Shelekhov emerged from the early 1950s as a satellite city of Irkutsk in connection with the construction of the Irkutsk aluminum plant. 1956, the rapidly growing city became the urban-type settlement and after the sailor and entrepreneur named Grigory Shelikof, but in a different, less common spelling of the family name. In 1962, the city charter was granted.
Since 2005, a twinning with Nomi in Japan.
