Shelia Burrell

Shelia Burrell ( born January 15, 1972 in Albuquerque ) is a retired American heptathlete.

From 1995, when she was still with 5737 points Eighth of the U.S. Championships until 1998, she struggled into the top. At the U.S. Championships in 1998 she finished second with a score of 6294 points. In 1999 she became the first American champion and competed at the World Athletics Championships in 1999 in Seville. Here she was eleventh with 6162 points.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 she was injured already in the high jump and remained in that no points. Yet she finished the entire competition, but only came 26th place with 5345 points. A year later, it reached the most successful of her career. With her personal best of 6472 points, she won the bronze medal at the IAAF 2001 World Championships in Edmonton.

2002 and 2003, she was twice U.S. champion in the heptathlon, but was unable to attend the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint- Denis injury. After she had won the year after the U.S. Olympic Trials, she went to Athens, where she landed at the 2004 Olympic Games with 6194 points in fourth place.
