Shell (theater)

A band shell is a structure type, which because of its particular - resembling a seashell - form serves as a stage for musical performances in the open air. The Bandshell is to go public, which is located in the open, open. The rear and side walls and the roof usually go into each other, the curvature is approximated on the inside usually the round surface of a quarter sphere ( spherical cap ). Thus there the incident sound is reflected toward the audience, which leads to a better room acoustics ( balanced proportion of direct sound and reflections).
