Shelley Thompson (footballer)

Shelley Ann Thompson ( born February 8, 1984 in Langenfeld ) is a former German football player.

Career

Thompson grew up in Monheim am Rhein. My father is from Zimbabwe, her mother is South African. In her parents' home spoke English, so that Thompson, as well as her brother, only learned in kindergarten German.

1989 began she and her older brother Marc at 1.FC Monheim playing football. After five years, she moved to Fortuna Dusseldorf and played two years in the D- youth. Once they are no longer allowed to play with boys in a team, they moved to Garather SV. About the SVG Neuss- Weissenberg she came 1999 SG Essen- Schönebeck. In her last year she was Niederrhein youth champion and on first attempt to jump into the first team. After eleven goals in the first half of the season, she joined on 1 January 2001 for FCR Duisburg, for which they scored at least ten goals in each season.

On 6 August 2003, she played for the first time in the German national team. Opponents in Trier was the selection of Nigeria. Between September 2003 and April 2004, she studied at Regis University in Denver. In the 2004/ 05 Bundesliga season, Thompson was top scorer with 30 goals. In summer 2006, she moved to Hamburger SV. After just one season, she left the club again and moved to VfL Wolfsburg. During her time there, she worked at Volkswagen in sports marketing. On 15 October 2009 Thompson was released from VfL with immediate effect from training and match operation due to " irreconcilable differences ". Subsequently, however, she continued to work for the marketing department of the club, until her move to the U.S. professional league WPS on 19 February 2010, where she signed a contract signed with newcomer Atlanta Beat.

For the season 2010/11 she moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where she worked for two years running. At the World Women's World Cup 2011, she worked as a Venue Media Officer at World Cup Leverkusen, Germany. June 30, 2012 Shelley Thompson was known on Twitter for her move SC 07 Bad Neuenahr. There she was injured but only a short-term mission in Bad Neuenahr second team in the 2nd Bundesliga Süd. On October 28, 2013, it finally ended her career due to a lengthy knee injury.

Shelley Thompson studied Media and Cultural Studies at the Heinrich- Heine University in Dusseldorf. Her grandfather was formerly pro at Liverpool.
