Shelton is a city in the U.S. state of Washington with 9,849 inhabitants. It is located in Mason County, whose county seat ( county seat ) it is.

In 1851 the first settlers arrived in the region. Today Shelton was first known in the late 19th century as Sheltonville. The site was intended for 1888 County seat of Mason County, and in 1890 officially registered with then 648 inhabitants as a community.
