Shen ring

With Schenu ( Egyptian) "circle" described the ancient Egyptians a ring of rope in circular, later elliptical shape with a flat base. The so-called Schengen ring enclosed the written in hieroglyphics throne name or the common name ( maiden name ) of an Egyptian king (Pharaoh).

Importance

The term " Schenu " (Sn (. W), vocalized š ˘ MSD ) is derived from a verb root " Sheni " ( SNJ ) " surrounded, enclose in a circle ."

The now familiar term for the Schengen ring with the royal names contained therein is the ( king or Hieroglyphics ) cartridge, also called king ring. Probably it meant then "the XY, which is orbited by the Sun", which was a widely used form of expression in ancient Egypt and was probably an image of the king as ruler.

However, there are frequent cases of cartridges for private people when they bear the name of a king, as for example in the high Egyptian officials Chnumibre. His father Ahmose -sa- Neith, the under King (Pharaoh) Amasis served as senior official has obviously oriented in the Namensgabung his son on the throne name of its ruler. In addition, there is also a cartridge to the name of a ruler, if this is only a part of the name of that person, such as in Sneferu - seneb.

When used in illustrations and sculptures of the Schengen ring is also regarded as a symbol of "eternity" without hieroglyphic content.
