Shenoute

Schenoute (also: Shenouda, Schinuda ) was an important Coptic altkirchlicher abbot.

Shenoute of Atripe was born around 348 AD. At the age of nine years he came to his uncle St. Pigol (also Bigul ), the abbot of the White Monastery ( Dayr Anba Arabic Šinūda / ad - Dayr al - Abyad ) south of Sohag in Upper Egypt. After a vision of Uncle Schenoute received permission to enter the convent, and was 385 ( 387 for other ) elected abbot. At the time, the monastery of 30 senior monks. The charismatic and practically assessed Schenoute loosened first the monastic rules. The reform move towards useful applications, such as the further practice of the profession for the benefit of the community, the monastery took on a permanent self-sustaining.
