Shenzhou 10

Shenzhou 10 was the tenth manned mission to test spacecraft in the Chinese space program. The crew consisted of three taikonauts and spent 12 days aboard the space station Tiangong 1

Crew

The crew was announced on 10 June 2013:

  • Never Haisheng (commander, second space flight )
  • Zhang Xiaoguang ( first space flight )
  • Wang Yaping ( first space flight, second Chinese woman in space )

The names of the members of the backup crew were not released.

Mission History

The start of the mission took place on 11 June 2013. During the two-day flight to the space station, the three astronauts on board were celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival with traditional rice dumplings. The coupling to the space station took place on June 13 at 05:11 UTC, the transition to 06:17 UTC.

On June 20, Wang Yaping held for Chinese student a lesson from space, in which she performed various physical experiments, thus demonstrating the influence of gravity. By videoconference 330 students in Beijing were switched directly, in more than 80,000 Chinese schools, the live broadcast was followed on television.

On June 23, the three astronauts boarded the Shenzhou spacecraft, docked on Tiangong 1 and 140 m away from the space station. The new approach was manually controlled by Nie Haisheng. After Shenzhou had 10 re- docked with Tiangong 1, the crew again rose to the space station.

On June 26, the spacecraft landed unscathed in Inner Mongolia.
