Sheridan County

Sheridan is a city in Sheridan County and is located in the state of Wyoming in the USA.

Geography

The city is located at the edge of the Bighorn National Forest, 150 kilometers east of Billings and about 220 kilometers north of Casper and right on the Interstate 90 highway.

History

The name of the town goes back to Major General Philip Sheridan, who fought in the American Civil War in the area and later fought out numerous conflicts with the Indians. After the end of the 19th century resulted in a railway line through the area, numerous people settled. The first industries that included germinated in the region coal mines, mills, breweries and cattle ranches. In 1900 5122 people lived in Sheridan.

Even today the promotion of coal is still an important industry. In addition, more and more tourist activities to be developed, including trekking tours in the Big Horn Mountains or the Bozeman Trail and the orientation of rodeos. In the winter, numerous winter sports activities on offer, such as snowmobiling.

Demography

In 2010 there was a total population of 29 116 people, which means an increase over 2000 of 9.6%.
