Sherwin Badger

Sherwin Campbell Badger ( born August 29, 1901 in Boston, Massachusetts, † April 8, 1972 in Sherborn, Massachusetts ) was an American figure skater, who started in a single run and pair skating.

Badger was 1920-1924 American figure skating champion of the men, four of them before his Boston rival Nathaniel Niles. He never took a single runner, however, to world championships. His only major international appearance was to participate in the 1928 Olympics in St. Moritz. There he placed eleventh, one place behind the best U.S. American Roger Turner.

In pair skating Badger won by the side of Beatrix Loughran the U.S. championship titles from 1930 to 1932 with her., He played three World Cups. In 1928 she finished fifth and in 1930 and 1932, she won the bronze medal. She also participated in two Olympic Games. 1928 in St. Moritz, they were placed in fourth and 1932 in Lake Placid home they were Olympic silver medalist behind the French Andrée and Pierre Brunet.

During his active sporting career Badger studied at Harvard, left the university in 1923 with a degree. This year, he began his professional career in business with the entry into the United Fruit Company, 1925, he became editor for the Wall Street Journal and Barron's. In 1940 he went to New England Mutual Life Insurance Company and remained there later. Vice - President and Director until his retirement in 1972. Badger was in the 30's also president of the National Figure Skating Association
