Shetland Museum

The Shetland Museum is a museum in Lerwick, the capital of Scotland's Shetland Islands. The new building, which has five times the size of the previous locations, started in 2004 and opened in 2007. The project was funded in part by lottery revenues.

On two floors, the history of the Shetland Islands is presented on a surface of about 900 m². Among the topics environment, geology, agriculture, fisheries and folklore exhibits are located on the ground floor. Upstairs politics, industry, clothing, whaling and merchant marine are the focus of the exhibition. The archive contains maps, literature and biographies and genealogy as well as records of the Church of Scotland, to the extent they relate to the Shetlands. There is also a hall in the size of 120 m² and a café.
