Shi Zhiyong

Shi Zhiyong ( born February 10, 1980 in Longyan, China) is a Chinese weightlifter.

Sporting career

Shi Zhiyong comes from a poor family and began with 10 years of weight lifting to login and thereby may support his family. After admission to the provincial team in 1997, he managed the leap into the national team.

Making his first appearance on the international stage of the assets had Shi Zhiyong then in 1999 at the World Championships in Athens, where he finished fourth.

After winning the Asian Championships in 2000 and 2004, and the Vice World Championship 2003 in Vancouver, he started in the Olympic Games in Athens and won the gold medal in the category up to 62 kg with a duel profit of 325.0 kg ahead of his teammate Le Maosheng and the Venezuelans Israel Jose Rubio.

After Athens Shi Zhiyong joined the class up to 69 kg, in which he also became world champion the following year in 2005, but then in several title bouts Zhang Guozheng or the French Vencelas Dabaya had to organize.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in their own country Shi established in cooperation with Liao Hui and was regarded as a safe medal candidate. After warming up, however, old injuries were noticeable, which is why he decided, along with his coach, to reduce the initial weight of 157 kg to 152 kg. Although he was in third place after only a valid attempt in the snatch with 152 kg, he joined because of shoulder pain at not more for thrusting.

Others

  • Shi is best known for its state of shock technology, which is indeed the more effective method, but is used because of the difficult balance to be held by only a few lifters.
  • At the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in 2008 Shi was a torchbearer.
