Shibaozhai

Shibaozhai (Chinese石宝寨/石宝寨, Shíbǎozhài Pinyin, English Precious Stone Fortress ) is a 200 m high hill on the banks of the Yangtze River in the district of Zhong Chongqing Municipality in the People's Republic of China.

There is a red pavilion with nine storeys, that echoes the hills and is connected via a dirt track to the temple on the hill on the side facing the Yangtze. From the foot of the hill on the riverside up to the yellow entrance of the pavilion are numerous dealers to be found. On the hill there is a temple that was built by Emperor Qianlong. The red pavilion was built in 1819.

With the construction of the Three Gorges dam, the part would only have been visible over the top of the red pavilion. With the help of a cofferdam the pagoda and the adjacent temple complex was protected.

Since 2001 Shibaozhai is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 5-381 ).
