Shichigahama (Miyagi)

Shichigahama (Japanese七ヶ浜 町, machi, dt " 7 Beaches" ) is a town in the district of Miyagi in Miyagi Prefecture.

History

On April 1, 1889, the founding of the village Shichigahama (七ヶ浜 村, -mura ) was performed. The name Shichigahama ( "Seven Beaches" ) originates from the beach 7 villages from which the community was formed: Minatohama (凑 浜, dt " harbor beach " ), Matsugahama (松ヶ浜, dt " pine beach " ), Shōbutahama (菖蒲 田 浜, dt " field of Irises beach " ), Hanabuchihama (花 渕 浜), Yoshidahama (吉田 浜), Yokasakihama (代ヶ 崎浜) and Tōgūhama (东宫 浜, dt " Ostschreinstrand ").

In the same year the foundation of the foreigners summer resort Takayama was (高山 外国人 避暑 地, Takayama gaikokujin hisochi ). There, American missionaries built their villas for which it was customary to take a two-month summer vacation every year. He was next to Karuizawa and the Lake Nojiri in Shinano to the three major summer resorts foreigners. This spa resort is now the village Takayama International (高山 国际 村, Takayama kokusai mura ).

On January 1, 1959, the appointment was made for Machi.

On 11 March 2011 the city was hit by the Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent tsunami. Until May 20, 65 dead and 11 missing were counted.

In Shichigahama are the Urban Shiomi Primary School (七ヶ浜 町立 汐見 小学校), the Municipal Ekiraku Primary School (七ヶ浜 町立 亦 楽 小学校) and the Urban Primary School Matsugahama (七ヶ浜 町立 松ヶ浜 小学校) and the Urban Middle School Shichigahama and the City Koyo Secondary School (七ヶ浜 町立 向洋 中学校). The Ekiraku elementary school and middle school Shichigahama take part in a project of MEXT for increasing learning ability as a frontier schools.
