Shikaku

Shikaku Shikaku or (Japanese四角 に 切れshikaku ni kire ) is a mystery, which is published by the Japanese publishing Nikoli. It is also known as the number of areas, Number area or Divide by Box known.

Regulate

Shikaku is played on a rectangular grid of any size. Some squares contain numbers.

The aim of the game is to divide the grid into rectangles, such that the following rules are met:

• Each rectangle contains exactly one number.
• The number indicates how many squares are contained in the rectangle.
• Two rectangles may not overlap.

Normally, the solution is uniquely determined by the given numbers.

Solution strategy

To solve Shikaku tries to find typically first single small rectangles then add gradually to the desired solution.
