Shilling (English coin)

The testone (plural:. Testoni, from italy testa - "head", "head ") is a first in Milan under Galeazzo Maria Sforza Duke 1474 embossed silver coin. It was modeled after the Venetian Lira Tron, was like this the ruler image on the front and was a fine weight of just 9 grams but a half times as heavy. The type of coin soon spread to many states of Italy and parts of Europe. It created numerous very well defined Renaissance silver coins with portraits of their rulers. The name ( in France Teston, in Tyrol Pfundner and Switzerland and parts of southern Germany thicknesses ) and the weight of the coin, however, varied. These coins are now seen as a precursor towards the thaler.
