Shimoina District, Nagano

Shimoina -gun ( Japanese:下 伊 那 郡, dt " sub - Ina -gun " ) is a county ( gun) in the south of Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu. It has an area of 1270.43 km ², 64 655 inhabitants and a population density of 50.9 inhabitants per km ² (as of March 1, 2010). It is composed of three towns ( machi ) and ten villages ( mura ). These are the cities Anan, Matsukawa, Takamori and the villages Achi, Hiraya, Neba, Oshika, Shimojo, Takagi, Tenryu, Toyooka, Urugi and Yasuoka. With currently 13 municipalities belonging Shimoina -gun is not only the county with the most municipalities in Nagano Prefecture, but also in Japan.

History

Shimoina -gun came into being on January 14, 1879 by a division of the old Ina -gun Shimoina -gun and kamiina -gun ( " top - Ina -gun "). Seat of that county government was Iida. Since April 1, 1889 included a town and 41 villages to Shimoina -gun. On April 1, 1937, after a merger Iida for independent city ( shi). Before the great territorial reform of the 1950s belonged to Shimoina -gun 42 villages. After the great municipal reform were since April 1, 1960, only four cities and 19 villages to Shimoina -gun. By other smaller regional reforms, the number of municipalities decreased further. The last date Shimoina -gun took place on 31 March 2009.
