Shiprock (Navajo: Naatáanii Neez ) is a municipality and a census- designated place (CDP ) in San Juan County in the U.S. state of New Mexico and is part of the Navajo Nation Reservation. The place is named after the rock formation located near Shiprock. The population of Shiprock was recorded in the census 2000 8.156 inhabitants in an area of 41.1 km ². The population density of 198.4 / km ².

Shiprock is one of eight sites of the Diné College, a tribal own university, and also hosted the Northern Navajo Fair, which takes place every year in October. The city lies at an altitude of 1491 m above sea level at the intersection of U.S. Highways 64 and 491
