Shire of Esperance

- 33.85121.88333333333Koordinaten: 33 ° 51 ' S, 121 ° 53' O The Shire of Esperance is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia. The area is 42,547 km ² and has about 13,000 inhabitants.

Esperance is situated in the south of the state on the Australian south coast about 600 km southeast of the capital, Perth. The seat of the Shire Council is located in the town of Esperance, where about 9500 inhabitants.

Management

The Esperance Council has 13 members, eleven are Councillor ( seven from the Town Ward and four from the Rural Ward ) elected by the residents of the two wards. The Chairman of the Council ( Shire President) and his deputy (vice ) are also elected by all residents of the LGA.

Others

After the crash of the U.S. Skylab on July 11, 1979 east of Perth and parts went down in the municipality of Esperance Shire. The local authorities sent NASA a penalty notice over 400 dollars for the illegal disposal of waste. NASA refused to pay, until 2009, the outstanding amount from a U.S. radio station was settled.
