Shire is a 1986 founded, the British pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. Sales amounted to 4,757 million U.S. dollars in 2013.

History

At the beginning of the company history sales Shire under the former name of AimCane calcium supplements ( Calcichew ® ) for the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases. Through worldwide mergers, acquisitions and distributions Shire has branches in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. So the German listed companies Jerini and allow the preparation Firazyr ® was acquired in 2008.

Shire offers special preparations in the following indication areas ( behind in the parentheses are the associated preparations): attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD) ( Vyvanse ®, Adderall XR ®, Intuniv ®, Equasym ®), gastroenterology ( Mezavant ® / Pentasa ®, Resolor ® ), hematology ( Xagrid ®), nephrology ( Fosrenol ®) and rare genetic disorders: Hunter syndrome ( Elaprase ®), Fabry disease ( Replagal ®), Gaucher disease ( VPRIV ®) and hereditary angioedema (HAE ) ( Firazyr ®).
