Shirley Jones
Shirley Mae Jones ( born March 31, 1934 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania ) is an American actress. She was a celebrated musical star and won as a mother in the television series The Partridge Family in the 1970's wide popularity.
Life
She was born as the only child of a medium sized brewery owner. The parents they baptized in the name Shirley by Shirley Temple. In 1952 she graduated from Huntington High School, attended drama school Pittsburgh Playhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1953, she was discovered in New York City at an audition for the musical South Pacific by the producers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. In the same year she won the role of Laurey Williams in the film adaptation of the musical Oklahoma in Hollywood!
With the filming of the musical theater her career began. Overall, she turned 32 Movies: She stood with David Niven and Marlon Brando for Bedtime Story front of the camera, filmed with Henry Fonda and James Stewart The Cheyenne Social Club. With Gordon MacRae she turned the musical Carousel. In 1961 she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the film Elmer Gantry.
From 1970 to 1974 she played with her stepson David Cassidy in the television series The Partridge Family. It was her first television role. She was the mother's role in three girls and three boys ( The Brady Bunch ) was offered, but rejected it before. The role of single mother Partridge and her six-member family band she liked better and gave her an enormous popularity. In 1985 she was nominated for the representation of members of an Alzheimer's patient in There were Times, Dear for an Emmy.
In 1986, she was dedicated a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Vine Street. For her life's work, she received in June 2004, the Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment Award.
Jones was married to his first wife, from 1956 to 1975 with the actor Jack Cassidy, with whom she has three children: Shaun Paul, Patrick, William and John Ryan. All three are also working in the entertainment industry. In 1977 she married actor Marty Ingels; In 2002, the divorce was filed. At Cañon Drive in Beverly Hills both jointly operate the chocolate shop Edelweiss.
