Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena ( Marathi: शिवसेना, śivsenā; Shivaji's army ) is a Hindu nationalist- regional political party in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The party members or supporter are referred to as Shiv Sainiks.

Party History

It was founded by Bal Thackeray on 19 June 1966. Thackeray has held the party presidency until his death on 17 November, 2012. The current chairman is Uddhav Thackeray. The original party ideology is " Bhumiputra " ( son of the earth ). Starting point of their thinking was the increased immigration of mainly South Indians in the business capital of Bombay since the 1950s. Therefore Shiv Sena claimed privileges for native Maharashtrier against newcomers. Since the 1970s, the party moved more with their second ideology Hindutva ( Hindu nationalism ) and defines itself in contrast to Muslims and Pakistan. Together with other parties to this orientation as the Bharatiya Janata Party, she was associated from 1999 to 2004 in the ruling coalition National Democratic Alliance. They had won 11 seats in 2009 in the 2004 election of Lok Sabha seats and 12 in the election and their MP Manohar Joshi was Speaker of Parliament from 2002 to 2004.

Shiv Sena presented from 1995 to 1999 together with the BJP and the Maharashtra government, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi was. In her reign the renaming of the city of Bombay in Mumbai fell. Since March 2007 with Shubha Raul for the first time a woman was elected as representative of the Shiv Sen mayor of Mumbai. The name of Shiv Sena refers to its leading figure, the Maratha king Shivaji, after they have since its government takeover in Mumbai several facilities, including the international airport and the largest train station in the city renamed.
