Shocking Blue

Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band, founded in 1967 in The Hague, in 1974 disbanded and was repeatedly re- formed. Her biggest success was Venus from the year 1969.

Band History

Shocking Blue was founded in 1967 by Robbie van Leeuwen. The second single Lucy Brown Is Back in Town, sung by Fred de Wilde, was reached in 1968 in the Netherlands immediately awarded the Top 5

At a party, the rock band Golden Earring, who already had their first number 1 hit in the Netherlands, Mariska Veres occurred. Rob Van Leeuwen, invited as a guest, was so impressed by Veres, that he sent his singers and Veres committed. The first album with her as well as the single Venus became a worldwide success. Especially in Japan and Latin America Shocking Blue were celebrated. From 1972, there have been numerous changes in the cast, even Van Leeuwen got out. In 1975, the group broke up eventually and the individual members joined other bands. Mariska Veres began a solo career in 1976 and sang with a smaller, more national success from now on in German and English.

Van Leeuwen tried in 1979 to initiate a comeback of the band. With Louise, a new track was recorded, which, however, never appeared, since the project was completed quickly. Every now and then still found themselves musicians under the old name along to perform at oldies festivals. A renewed attempt to revive the band, was launched in September 1993 by Mariska Veres. However, the other former colleagues were not interested. Van Leeuwen allowed Veres, however, to use the name Shocking Blue for your own project and also produced his first single, Body & Soul. In December 1993, the reformatting had her first appearance in Utrecht. Until the death of Veres Shocking Blue were represented mainly in Germany on many oldies festivals.

The song Love Buzz, published in 1988 in only small numbers on the first single of the later very successful band Nirvana, was originally written by Shocking Blue.
