Shomu Mukherjee

Shomu Mukherjee (actually Somdev Mukherjee; * June 19, 1943, † April 10, 2008 in Mumbai, Maharashtra ) was an Indian producer and director of Hindi film.

He was the youngest son of producer Sashadhar Mukerji, whose studio Filmalaya in Mumbai Andheri district he last ran together with his cousins ​​Ram and Romeu. His brothers Joy and Deb were actors.

His debut had Mukherjee as a producer of the film Ek Baar Muskura Do (1972). In addition to his brothers also Tanuja and her mother Shobhana Samarth appeared in this film, directed by his cousin Ram Mukherjee. He made his own directorial debut a year later with Nannha Shikhari (1973). This had - as well as his other directing credits Fifty-Fifty (1981 ), Lover Boy (1985 ), Patthar Ke Insaan (1990) and Sangdil Sanam (1994 ) - only moderate success. After Sangdil Sanam with Salman Khan and Manisha Koirala, Mukherjee retired from active film business.

In 1973 he married Tanuja. Her two daughters Kajol and Tanisha were actresses. Mukherjee died of a heart attack.
