Shōnen manga

The Japanese term shōnen (少年Japanese, German " boy, youth " ) is known in the West primarily as a term for a manga category.

Features

Shōnen manga are drawn specifically for adolescent boys. The thematic focus is mainly on action scenes and battles against monsters and evil forces, but also tackling real life problems in school and with friends is described. Often act such stories of ordinary children who are suddenly by special forces to superheroes and save their friends, or even the whole world with their super powers.

A world -known representative of the "classical" shōnen manga is the series Dragon Ball. But also other works of this genre could achieve far-reaching awareness. In different manga magazines Shonen manga are published target groups. The most famous Japanese shōnen manga magazines are the weekly Shonen Jump, Shonen Magazine and Shonen Sunday.

The counterpart to the shōnen manga are shōjo manga ( manga for girls ).
