Shopska salad

Schopska salad ( Bulgarian шопска салата / Schopska salata, Serbian шопска салата / Šopska salata ) is a traditional salad of Balkan cuisine, the most of the original in the Bulgarian cuisine and Serbian cuisine is attributed. The Schopska salad is the variant of a mixed salad on the basis of fresh vegetables, such as is common in other countries of the Balkans, such as a peasant salad ( Choriatiki ) in Greece, ( salatası Çoban ) as shepherds salad in Turkey as well as other Black sea states such as Azerbaijan ( Azerbaijani Шəки-салаты/Şəki-salatı ), Armenia, Georgia and Russia.

The name comes from the region Schopluk ( Šopluk ), which is now the border between Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia, from which the adjective Schopska ( Šopska ) was derived for the salad. In the region, a tribe called ethnographic Schopen ( Schopi, SOPI ), whose members now call themselves Serbs or Bulgarians exists. The Schopska salad is prepared with tomatoes, cucumbers, raw or roasted peppers, onions, parsley, salt, lemon juice or vinegar, oil, brine cheese. Bulgarians and Serbs eat the salad mostly as mezze, appetizer or snack.
