Shotmaker (band)

Shot Maker was an emocore band from Belleville, Ontario / Canada, which existed in early to mid -90s.

History

The three -piece band founded in 1993. Appears already in the same year with Little kid the first EP of the band. Overall, it brings the band on four EPs and three albums before it dissolves in 1996.

The band is formed in a time in which some bands play a indie rock style, especially in the North and Northeast of the U.S., which is also referred to as emo. Due to the commercial success of this style, the term is sometimes only associated with this style. So also the emotional Hardcore Punk gambling Shot Maker are often compared with that indie sound at least.

In 2000, the band released the complete discography on Troubleman Records.

They were among the few emocore bands from the Canadian hardcore punk scene, which gained a certain notoriety in the United States. So it says on the unofficial page:

"They are one of the few Canadians to take on the underground punk / hardcore / emo scene in an American dominated scene. "

Style

Shot Maker played an emocore style, which was indeed marked by the at that time - just north of the United States - so-called emerging indie Emobands, but builds on the typical elements of emotional hardcore. For example, soft wisperndes singing and loud cry bursts, loud, hard chaotic guitars and gentler, more monotonous interludes built on experimental mid-tempo DC Sound hardcore.

Characteristic of their sound are more pronounced than usual bass lines. On the unofficial side is to read about the sound:

" Esoteric lyrics, insane lab scientist screams, masterful bass playing, and crushing guitar riffs is Shot Maker. "

Their influence on the genre is very strong. So also to the emerging on the west coast of the USA harder Emo or Screamobands. In a text about the band states:

" So Shot Maker are early progenitors of the current emo explosion, With Their loud soft approach, complex guitar passages and screamy vocals. Though this is really just hardcore at its embroiled, impassioned best [ ... ] Shot Maker kind of follows the melody -through -chaos approach of other hardcore / emo bands slightly - like, say, the Swing Kids -. Approaching and at some times the full-on screamo sound "
