SHOUTcast

SHOUTcast is a freeware streaming server for audio streams / TV streams from the company Radionomy. SHOUTcast uses MP3 for audio data compression, AAC audio files and HTTP as the transport protocol for the contact of the stream. This is made possible by the operation of an Internet radio stations under the operating systems Windows, FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris.

The software

The software is available as freeware in the basic version, it allows even inexperienced users to set up a server problem for Internet radio. The outgoing audio stream is supported by many popular clients. Some other media players allow using a plugin playback of SHOUTcast streams.

Protocol:

A Shoutcast stream, since it runs over HTTP, be called directly via a web browser (HTTP GET command ). The server response contains the header information about the stream and allows the playback in a suitable media player. There is also the possibility to announce at varying streamed audio files, such as during radio, the listeners of the title of the current track.

SHOUTcast Wire
